The Virgin Train Pendolino is one of the most well-known trains in the UK, having arrived in 2001 when Virgin Trains purchased 53 Class 390 Pendolinos. Originally established in Italy, the Pendolino gets its name from the Italian word "pendolo" which means "small pendulum" - referencing the way the train tilts when navigating curves on the track.

This unique tilting mechanism allows the Pendolino to travel at higher speeds on older tracks while still ensuring passenger comfort. Though it has a top speed of 140 mph, it can only reach 125 mph in the UK.
